April 29, 2018 – 28 local golfers have qualified for the 2018 Regionals in Men's Golf. The one day, 18 hole tournaments will determine which individuals and teams advance to the State Championship Tournaments next week.
The 2A Mideast Tournament and the 3A Midwest Tournaments will be Monday. The 1A Mideast Tournament will take place on Tuesday.

April 29, 2018 – Conference Tournaments are this week for area softball and baseball teams.
Softball tournaments are scheduled to begin Monday for the Mid-Piedmont 3A, Piedmont Athletic 2A and Yadkin Valley 1A conferences. Seven members in two of those conferences means a first round bye for the conference champions in the MPC (S Alamance) and the PAC 7 (Providence Grove). The YVC has nine teams but only the top eight qualify for the tournament. Albemarle and North Rowan finished in a tie for eighth and will require a tie breaker. The tournament schedules can be found on the SportsTone Softball page.
Baseball tournaments are scheduled to begin Monday in the PAC 7 and Yadkin Valley conferences while the MPC tournament will start on Tuesday. Southeast Guilford won the Mid-Piedmont Championship and Randleman the PAC 7 Championship. Both teams will receive first round byes. Uwharrie Charter is champions of the YVC and will host a first round game Monday. See more on the SportsTone Baseball page.
April 28, 2018 – Eastern Randolph Post 81 American Legion Baseball will hold an information meeting on Sunday, April 29 at the American Legion Hut, 604 South Greensboro Street in Liberty. Interested players and their parents are encouraged to attend the three o'clock meeting.
Post 81 will field a Senior Legion team for players 19 and under as well as a Junior Legion team for players 17 and under. The minimum age for American Legion Baseball is 13 years.

Savannah Beaver earned the win in the circle and added three hits at the plate. Kelsey Craven had a two run home run while Nicole Cox, Marion Goins, Brooklyn Rush and Aniyah King all had two hits each.

Emily Johnson ws three-for-three with a home run and five RBI to lead the Cougars on offense. Samantha Lagrama also had a home run while Chelsey Auman and Courtney Chriscoe had two hits apiece. Autumn Springer struck out nine and picked up the win.

Emma Trotter led the Blue Comets with two goals scored with one each by Mattie McGee, Rachel Luna and Annabeth Trotter. Dishing out assists were Annabeth Trotter (2), Addie Shaw, Jenna Richardson and Jenna Brinkley. Angie Pincus and Lndey Otero shared the shutout in goal.

Trey Cooper struck out 14 in five innings of work for the win. Matt Kemp had four strikouts in two innings on the mound. Ramsey Petty had two hits and Nick Neal hit a solo home run for the Tigers.

Alex Hamilton's double with two outs in the tenth inning drove in the only runs of the game and Asheboro held on for the extra-inning win. Hamilton also earned the win in relief.
Starters Bryce Marsh (SWR) struck out 14 in six and two-thirds innings and Trevor Marsh (AHS) had six strikeouts in seven and two-thirds innings but neither figured in the decision.

The Patriots used a seven run sixth inning to come from behind against Jordan-Matthews.
Jacob Switzer took the win with one inning of relief allowing one run with three strikeouts. Jordan Hodges got the save.

Connor Patterson struck out ten in a complete game win Thursday night. The Patriots recorded 11 hits with multiple hits by Andrew Poteat, Levi Adams and Drew Needham.

Colton Craven got the complete game win and added two hits on offense for the Wildcats. Michael Glasgow also had two hits and two RBI.
Cole McCrary and Garrett Allen had two hits each for Trinity. Allen pitched five and two thirds innings and took the loss.

April 26, 2018 – Providence Grove won their third straight Conference Championship in Men's Tennis last week, ending the regular season with a 9-1 conference record following a 6-3 win over Wheatmore.
Singles winners in last Thursday's match were Nic Swaim, Dante Rivero, Daniel Ellison, Raymond Pang, Gray Bracica and Walter Johnson. The Patriot's number one singles player Cameron Clark missed the match because of illness.
Wheatmore doubles winners were Graham Tysinger & Kenny Coleman, A J Dillon & Jacob Hill and Seth Strickland & Issac Seagle.

April 22, 2018 – Conference tournaments in Men's Tennis are scheduled for this week with the Mid-Piedmont Conference Tournament on Tuesday (postponed until Friday) (rescheduled for 11:30 am Thursday) in Burlington Asheboro and the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament at Jordan-Matthews High School on Wednesday.
Individual players and doubles pairings will advance from the MPC tournament to the 3A Midwest Regional in Concord on May 4th and 5th. Three singles players and three doubles pairs will qualify for regional play.
PAC 7 regional qualifiers (individuals: 3 singles; 3 doubles) will return to Siler City when Jordan-Matthews hosts the 2A Mideast Regional on May 4th and 5th.
Individual State Championships are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 11th and 12th.
Dual Team Championships will take place on Saturday, May 19th.
April 22, 2018 – Men's Golf has concluded it's regular season with conference tournaments scheduled for this week and regional tournaments scheduled for April 30th or May 1st.
The Mid-Piedmont Conference Tournament will be held Monday at Alamance Country Club and the Piedmont Athletic Tournament will be Tuesday at Colonial Country Club.
The top three teams from the MPC, PAC 7 and the Yadkin Valley Conference will qualify for regionals along with the individual golfers who meet the scoring criteria. The top four golfers from each conference who are not on one of the three qualifying teams will qualify for regional play.
Uwharrie Charter golfers who qualify will compete in the 1A Mideast Regional.
PAC 7 golfers are assigned to the 2A Mideast Regional which will be held at Land O' Lakes Golf Course near Whiteville on Monday, April 30th.
Golfers from the Mid-Piedmont Conference will compete in the 3A Midwest Regional at Greensboro National Golf Club on Monday, April 30th.
The High School Golf State Championships will be held at multiple Pinehurst area courses are on Monday and Tuesday, May 7th and 8th.
April 22, 2018 – Four Eastern Randolph seniors signed their National Letters of Intent to continue their education and athletic endeavors after high school.
Nicole Cox signed with Emory & Henry College (Emory, VA) for softball. Cox is a three year varsity player with a .404 career batting average and more than 40 stolen bases to her credit. The Emory & Henry Wasps compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Also from the Wildcats softball team, catcher Marion Goins will take her .379 batting average and 4.07 GPA to Claflin University (Orangeburg, SC). The CFU Panthers are members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Taylor Hatchett signed with Methodist University (Fayetteville, NC) basketball this week. The Methodist Monarchs compete in the USA South Athletic Conference.
Wildcat Landon Smith has committed to Louisburg College (Louisburg, NC) for baseball. The Hurricanes are a part of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Nick Halo was three for four at the plate and struck out 13 Jets batters in six and two-thirds innings but took the loss Friday night in Siler City.

The Tigers secured the PAC 7 baseball championship with the win at Eastern Randolph.

The Blue Comets came from behind in the early innings to take a lead over Williams then came from behind again in the seventh inning to tie the game at 8 but could not hold on Friday night in Burlington.
Williams scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh off a low liner hit down the left field line just inside the third base bag.
Austin Curry was 2 for 2 with a double. He also reached base hit-by-pitch twice and walked once.
Tatum Marsh was 3 for 5 with two RBI and Alex Hamilton drove in three runs with a bases clearing double.
Logan Hamilton had two hits including a line drive in the top of the seventh which fell just out of reach of a diving right fielder and rolled to the fence. With Dawson Davis scoring in front of him, Hamilton circled the bases for an inside-the-park home run.

April 17, 2018 – Providence Grove senior Xavier Andrews has signed with Averett University in Danville, VA to continue his education and football career.
An All-Conference running back in the PAC 7, Andrews was a thousand yard rusher his senior year capped by a 216 yard, two touchdown effort against Union Pines.
The Averett Cougars are members of the USA South Conference.

April 14, 2018 – A trio of Southwestern Randolph seniors signed with Pfeiffer University this week to continue their soccer careers.
Enrique Ramirez, Carlos Cuadros and Yonathan Abonza were All-Conference players as seniors with Cuadros selected as the 2017 Offensive Player of the Year in the MPC.
They will join the Falcons as Pfeiffer begins competing in NCAA Division III sports as part of the USA South Conference.

Skyler Swaney got the win going six innings with 11 hits and nine runs while striking out six. Kynnedy Thrift threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Christen Rosenbaum took the loss for Trinity. She allowed 17 hits and 11 runs over eight innings, striking out three.
For Wheatmore, Meredith McQuiague, Emily Lane, Swaney, Kaleigh Craft, Kirsten Hart, Abbey Parrish and Kendall Lewis all managed multiple hits.
Trinity tallied 13 hits. Alyssa Tobey (3 for 5, 2 doubles), Kelli Wagner (double, HR), Abba Williard (3 for 4), and Kourtnie Blakenship each collected multiple hits for Trinity.
Garrett Foland had two hits for Asheboro. Trevor Marsh, Alex Hamilton and Logan Hamilton had one hit each.
Trey Cooper earned the win in a pitcher's duel against Cole McCrary.
McCrary gave up three of the Tiger runs.
Connor Stanley had the only hit off Cooper who recorded 11 strike outs in seven innings.
Matt Kemp and Koty Ransom had one hit and two RBI each for Randleman.
Gabe Hernandez pitched seven innings for the win allowing two runs on three hits in the first then retired the next 19 batters 12 strike outs and no walks.
Colten Craven pitched five and two-thirds innings of perfect ball but suffered the loss as Wheatmore scored six runs in the sixth inning.
Bryce Marsh pitched six innings and picked up the win allowing one run on six hits. Marsh struck out 11.
At the plate the Cougars' recorded 21 hits. Braxton Davis had four, Blake Marsh, Kevin Newlin and Jonathan Owens had three hits each and Carson Clapp had two hits.
Jordan Hodges gave up one hit in four innings of work for the win. He struck out ten with no walks allowed.
At the plate, Hodges drove in seven Patriot runs with a home run, double, sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice. Evan Stern and Jackson Jones also had multiple hit nights for PG.
The Cougars were led by Tristan Pugh (Sr) who shot 40. Nathan Cagle scored 44, Cameron Cagle and Justin Jarrett both shot 45.

Goss, a member of three state championship teams while at Randleman and two Super Bowl winning teams while with the San Francisco 49ers, joins one-time Randleman assistant coach Mike Turner who became the CNU Eagles head coach in November, 2016.
Matt Kemp pitched all four innings and surrendered just one hit as the Randleman Tigers took advantage of Wolverine miscues to win by the mercy rule in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Randleman finished the Mingo Bay Classic with a 2-2 record.
Evan Stern and Drew Needham each had three hits and led the offense in a six inning win over Burlington Williams in the Copperhead Classic. Stern scored four runs while Needham drove in four, including a three run home run for the Patriots.
Ben Campbell pitched four innings for the win.
Central had an 8-2 lead after six innings but the Wildcats' comeback fell short in the two run loss in the Copperhead Classic.
The final game of the week at McCrary Park saw Parker LaPlant get the complete game win for the Cougars over the Central Bison. LaPlant allowed two hits with one walk and struck out 8 in the win.
When he wasn't on the mound, LaPlant was 4 for 4 at the plate with 2 doubles and a triple and 4 runs scored. Blake Marsh (2 for 3) scored three runs. Carson Clapp (2 for 2) drove in five runs with a double and a triple. Braxton Davis (3 for 3) scored two and drove in two.
Trey Cooper pitched a complete game for Randleman at Conway, SC High School in the 5-0 win over St Albans in the Mingo Bay Classic. Cooper struck out eight in the shut out.

Eastern Randolph committed 7 errors and lost to Williams 10-6 Thursday in the Copperhead Clasic at McCrary Park.
Nick Halo replaced Wheatmore starter Connor Cox on the mound in the second inning after Cox suffered an injury on the base paths in the bottom of the first. Halo went five and a third and struck out nine Bison batters but Central earned the win in the Copperhead Classic.
Asheboro's Trevor Marsh did not allow any hits in five and a third innings and faced two batters over the minimum until he walked the bases loaded in the top of the sixth. Tatum Marsh tookto the mound and earned the win. Austin Curry got the save.
Curry was three for three at the plate. Trevor Marsh was two for four with four RBI.
Kaleb Lowe and Conner Patterson had the only two hits for the Patriots.
Connor Patterson struck out eight in six innings and got the win over Lee County in the Copperhead Classic at McCrary Park Wednesday afternoon. Jordan Hodges pitched the seventh inning for the save.
Five Cougars had multiple hits, led by Chris Hardin's 3 for 5 effort, and Southwestern Randolph survived an error-filled game against East Davidson on a chilly, windy night at McCrary Park.
Logan Myrick got the win in relief as the Cougars scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and hold on for the come-from-behind victory. SWR was charged with four errors while East Davidson committed eight.
In the Mingo Bay Classic at Soccastee (SC) High School, Randleman overcame a seven run deficit by scoring three runs in the fourth inning, three more in the sixth and two runs in the seventh but could not hold on as Cave Spring plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Mason Matthews had three hits for the Tigers as did Nick Neal who notched a solo home run. Dawson Edwards had two hits.
With his 2.2 scoreless innings on Saturday, Cam Reid has now thrown 18 consecutive scoreless innings - a streak that dates back to Feb. 23.
Wheatmore snapped a two game skid with the shut out win in the Copperhead Classic Tuesday night.
Warrior sophomores Gabe Hernandez and Connor Cox totaled 17 strike outs in the game while allowing three hits, four walks and a hit batter.
Hunter Smith had three of Wheatmore's nine hits. Bryce Lowe and Jeremiah Hodge each had two hits.
Trevor Marsh had two of Asheboro's three hits, a double and a triple. Austin Curry also had a double for the Blue Comets.
Randleman dropped their first game in the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach to Carolina Forest High School 6-1 Tuesday.
The Tigers cut into a four run deficit with three hits and a single run in the sixth inning but the Panthers scored two more on their home field and held on for the win.
Post 81 will field a Senior Legion team for players 19 and under as well as a Junior Legion team for players 17 and under. The minimum age for American Legion Baseball is 13 years.
