Kannapolis knocked out 14 hits in the 9-2 win at McCrary Park.
Austin Curry and Trevor Marsh scored for Randolph County in the first inning. Curry on a triple by Marsh and Marsh on a ground out by Dawson Painter.
Carter Long, Brian Lemly and Travis Winslow split the pitching duties with Long suffering the loss.

Eastern Randolph Post 81 got out to a five-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 6-4 victory over Stanly County Post 76.
Leading 1-0, Post 81 notched four more runs in the fourth inning for their biggest lead of the game.
Stanly County drew to within 5-3 before each team added single runs in the seventh inning.
Jackson Hartley was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on three hits and striking out four in four innings. Hunter Little picked up his second save.
Connor Patterson and Connor Shipley both recorded two hits in the win.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Post 45 broke away from a 2-1 game with five runs in the fifth inning. Randolph County recorded nine hits on offense and played error-free defense.
Hickory started game two by outscoring Randolph County 8-1 over the first three innings and held on for the win. Bryce Marsh was 2-3 to lead Post 45 in hitting.
Eastern Randolph 5, Stanly County 2
Logan Jarosz took the win for Eastern Randolph Post 81. He lasted four innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out five. Scottie Thompson and Hunter Little entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Little recorded the last three outs to earn the save.
Little lead Post 81 at the plate with a 2-for-4 night and two rbi.
May 27, 2018 – Saturday Women's Soccer Results at Dail Soccer Stadium, NC State University.
2A CHAMPIONSHIP
First Flight fell behind early, conceding a goal in the 8th minute to Lake Norman Charter, but the Nighthawks stormed back, scoring six goals in the final 46 minutes of the game to claim the program’s second state championship in women’s soccer with a 6-1 victory.
First Flight ended the year 25-2-1 while the Lake Norman Charter Knights finished the year 22-1-1.
4A CHAMPIONSHIP
The Fuquay-Varina Bengals absorbed Myers Park pressure and in the 42nd minute, an attempted clearance clanged off Kaitlyn Laux and into the Mustang net, putting Fuquay-Varina up 1-0. The Bengals held on to win their first state championship in women’s soccer program history.
Fuquay-Varina wrapped up the year 18-4-2, Myers Park finished the season 21-1-1.
1A CHAMPIONSHIP
The third championship match of the day was scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm but was delayed nearly and hour and a half because of weather. Union Academy's Caleigh MacKinnon scored twice in the 15th minute and the Cardinals would go on to defeat the Franklin Academy Patriots 6-1.
Union Academy finished the year 25-1-0, Franklin Academy 25-2-1.
3A CHAMPIONSHIP
The final match of Championship Saturday began more than an hour later than the scheduled 8:00 start time. Then in mid-match, with Chapel Hill leading 1-0 over Cox Mill, the stadium was cleared because of lightning. Dail Soccer Stadium reopened at 11:00 pm and the match resumed shortly after with the same defensive intensity as before and the Tigers held on for the 1-0 championship victory.
Chapel Hill ended their year with a record of 19-1-1. The Cox Mill Chargers finished at 19-3-2.

Rowan County 2, Eastern Randolph 1
Connor Patterson, Matt Moody, and Jordan Cassell each collected one hit to lead Eastern Randolph Post 81 which out hit Rowan County three to two but fell 2-1 in Salisbury.
The game ended with the home team leading when rain began in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Hayden Setzer earned the victory on the mound for Rowan County Post 342.
Evan Stern took the loss for Eastern Randolph Post 81. He allowed two hits and two unearned runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one.
May 26, 2018 – Southwestern Randolph senior Tristan Pugh has signed with Greensboro College for golf.
Pugh was an All-Conference selection in the Mid-Piedmont Conference this spring and will be joining a program coming off it's second straight appearance in the NCAA Division III National Championship match.
The Greensboro Pride are members of the USA South Athletic Conference.

Stanly County 7, Eastern Randolph 6
Eastern Randolph Post 81 fought back after falling down by four runs but the comeback fell just short in a 7-6 loss to Stanly County Post 76.
Both teams scored twice in the first inning. Post 81's Connor Shipley and Hunter Little singled then scored on a base hit by Evan Stern.
Trailing six to two in the bottom of the fifth, five straight batters reached for Eastern Randolph with a walk to Shipley, a double by Little followed by a Jordan Cassell walk. Shipley and Little scored on a Stern single followed by a base hit by Connor Patterson which plated Cassell and, after a fly ball out, Stern scored on a hit by Connor Murphy to tie the game.
In the seventh inning, Stanly's Clay Pinion doubled and then scored on a hit by Cody Kidd for what turned out to be the winning run.
Ryan Baucom earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for Stanly County Post 76. He allowed one hit and no runs over the final two innings.
Mason Canoy took the loss for Post 81 . He pitched the final two innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out three and walking one.
Eastern Randolph racked up nine hits with Stern (3 for 4) and Little (2 for 3) recording multiple hits.

Randolph County 11, Concord 4
Spencer Lanier drove in five runs on three hits to lead Randolph County past Concord 11-4. Lanier drove in runs on a sacrifice fly in the first, a home run in the third, and a double in the sixth.
Randolph County got their offense started when Dawson Painter singled in the first inning, scoring one run.
Post 45 tallied five runs in the sixth inning. Painter, Lanier, and Blake Marsh all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
Bryce Marsh got the win for Randolph County. He allowed four hits and four runs over five innings, striking out four. Trevor Marsh and Travis Winslow helped to close out the game in relief.
Stephen Cutay took the loss for Concord. He went four and a third innings, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out three.
Randolph County had nine hits in the game. Lanier and Painter each racked up multiple hits for Post 45 led by Lanier's 3-for-3 night at the plate.

Eastern Randolph Post 81 managed just two hits and a single run in their season opener against Davidson County. Connor Patterson singled in the third inning and Connor Shipley led off the home half of the fourth with a single.
After Shipley's hit, Hunter Little was hit by a pitch and Jordan Cassell reached on an error to load the bases with no outs. Shipley scored the Post 81 run as the Davidson defense turned a double play then got a ground out to end the only threat ER managed to mount.

Mooresville scored five runs off Post 45's starting pitcher, Braxton Davis, in the first inning.
Randolph County answered with four runs in the bottom of the first and tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third. Post 45 took their first lead in the bottom of the fourth when Trevor Marsh scored on a base hit by Bryce Marsh and a fielding error on the Mooresville left fielder.
Post 45 added to their lead when Dawson Painter scored in the bottom of the sixth.
Mooresville would rap out three straight hits with two outs in the top of the seventh and tie the game at seven.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Bryce Marsh singled to center to bring in Landon Smith with the winning run.
Brian Lemly pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. Trevor Marsh was the winning pitcher.

May 21, 2018 – Trinity senior Hunter Neal has signed with Guilford College for basketball.
Neal was a four-year varsity performer and led the Bulldogs in scoring and assists his senior season. As a senior, he was selected to the Piedmont Athletic All-Conference Team.
The Guilford College Quakers compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

WOMEN
GREENSBORO, NC – The Hillside 4 x 400 meter relay team earned a win in the final relay of the night to edge Parkland 62-61 in the race for a team championship. Parkland was led by Alexis Patterson who was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Performer.
Asheboro's Kalynn McNair successfully defended her 2017 State Championship in the triple jump with a mark of 38 feet, 1.0 inch for the 2018 Championship.
MEN
GREENSBORO, NC – The Weddington Warriors claimed the school’s second straight 3A Men’s Track and Field team title with a pair of event wins on the day.
Jamar Davis from Orange won the long jump and the triple jump. Davis was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Performer.
The 4 x 200 meter relay team from Asheboro finished sixth in the state finals. Jemel Ellison, Tyrek Little, Khamisey Williams and Nate Fisher finished with a time of 01:29.36.
1A Track & Field Championships
WOMEN
GREENSBORO, NC – The Murphy Bulldogs powered their way to the 1A Women’s Team State
Championship with event wins in the discus and 4 x 100 meter relay.
West Montgomery’s Araybian Lilly was the meet’s Most Outstanding Performer winning three individual events. Lilly claimed the three sprint events with a blazing 12.48 second time in the 100, a 25.73 seconds mark in the 200 and a speedy 57.06 seconds performance in the 400 meters.

GREENSBORO, NC – The Cougars of Polk County have been strong in track and field for many years, but this year’s men’s team accomplished something none of their predecessors have been able to, win a team state championship.
Josh Polk of Hobbton was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Performer.

WOMEN
GREENSBORO, NC – Mariah Howlett from Lake Norman Charter won two individual events, the 1600 and the 3200 meter runs, to lead Lake Norman Charter to the first ever team state championship in women’s track and field program history.
Nicole Barnes of T W Andrews won four individual events on the day, taking home the 100 meter hurdles, the 300 meter hurdles, the long jump and the triple jump. She was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Performer.
Senior Taylor Hatchett from Eastern Randolph High School qualified in the discus throw and finished 15th in the state while wildcat freshman Amya Brooks placed 6th in the triple jump.

GREENSBORO, NC – Forest Hills got a pair of individual wins from Scott McClendon in the long jump and the triple jump as well as wins in two of the four relay events to sneak past Croatan 57-53 and win the school’s first Men’s Track and Field State Championship. McClendon was named the meet's Most Outstanding Performer.
Randleman's Umar Abdul-Matin won the State Championship in the 110 meter hurdles event. The senior won his preliminary heat with a time of 15.23 seconds then improved to 14.74 seconds in the event finals.
Abdul-Matin also placed 6th in the 300 meter hurdles and was a part of the Tiger's 4 x 100 relay team which finished 11th in the state. Other team members were Tanner McGee, Tyson Green and Clayton Gentry.
Gentry also qualified in the 100 meter dash and recorded a couple of top ten finishes in the 200 meter dash (9th) and the high jump (8th).
From Eastern Randolph, senior Tyrese Cassidy placed 7th in the long jump while junior Jordan Terrell finished sixth in the discus throw finals.
Sophomore Christian Garcia and freshman Donavan Lara qualified in pole vault with Lara finishing in 13th place.

Trinity High School will be holding their annual 'Physical Day' on Tuesday, May 22 in the Trinity High School Gym from 3:30-4:30. The cost is $10 and the physicals will be given by Randolph Hospital.
Each Student needs to have their parent complete the front side of a physical form before coming. We will have blank forms at the front desk of the office and at the payment table in the gym the day of.

The rematch is scheduled for 7:00 Friday night at McCrary Park in Asheboro.

It is rare when the North Carolina High School Athletic Association allows any event to take place on a Sunday. When it does, it's usually because of bad weather and perhaps because of the availability of facilities.
With rain expected to continue, the 1A and 3A State Championships in Track & Field have been rescheduled for Sunday, May 20 at NC A & T State University in Greensboro.
As of Thursday afternoon, the 2A and 4A Championship Meets are still scheduled for Saturday.
Local athletes affected are the state qualifiers from Asheboro High School participating in the 3A Championships. Events will begin at 11:00 am Sunday at Erwin Belk Track at Aggie Stadium in Greensboro.

May 17, 2018 – Trinity High School senior Carley Todd has signed with Averett University for Volleyball. A four year member of the Bulldog's volleyball team, Todd was honored as an All-PAC 7 Conference performer as a senior.
Averett University is located in Danville, VA where the Cougars are members of the USA South Conference.

#3 Randleman 7, #6 Midway 0
Randleman scored in each of the first five innings and advanced to round 4 of the 2A playoffs with a 7-0 shutout of Midway High School.
Matt Kemp, Tyler Yates and Connor Sterling had three hits each. Kemp hit a solo home run and totaled five RBI.
Kemp also pitched five innings of no-hit ball. Dominick Poole pitched the final two innings.
This marks the eighth straight year the Tigers have advanced to at least the fourth round of the playoffs.
#4 South Granville 12, #12 Providence Grove 2
South Granville scored in all six innings and ended the Patriot's season with a 12-2 win in Creedmore.
In his first game back on the mound since leaving PG's round 1 game because of back pain, Connor Patterson pitched an inning and a third before giving way to Jordan Hodges. Hodges worked into the sixth before being relieved by Ben Campbell.
Patterson was 2 for 3 at the plate including one of the four hits Providence Grove strung together in the fifth inning. Campbell, Andrew Poteat and Patterson all singled before Evan Stern drove in the two Patriot runs with a single.
Providence Grove ends the season with a record of 23-6.

Bryson Hamlet struck out six in six innings of work and earned the shutout win against Cherryville Tuesday night to advance in the 1A playoffs.
Kody Bauersfeld and Tyler Campbell had two hits each while Trevor Maness drove in three runs.

Providence Grove took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Gabri Hessenthaler scored on an Anna Thomas fielder's choice, but the inning ended with Maddie Hunt stranded at third base and no more Patriots were able to reach base against Hannah Thompson and the Bartlett Yancey defense.
The Buccaneers used three hits and a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to pull ahead and ended the Providence Grove season with the Patriots first loss of the year - 2-1 in the third round of the 2A playoffs.
Providence Grove ends the year with a record of 22-1.

May 14, 2018 – The North Carolina Christian School Association determined champions in spring sports over the weekend and North Carolina public school champions have already been decided in Men's Golf and Tennis.
More championships will be determined this week with Men's Lacrosse semifinals scheduled for Tuesday and State Championship matches on Friday and Saturday.
State Championship Track & Field Meets will be held this week at NC A&T State University in Greensboro. 1A & 3A Championships will be on Friday, 2A & 4A on Saturday with competition beginning at 10 am both days.
Four rounds remain in Women's Soccer playoffs with State Championships scheduled for Saturday, May 26.
In both Baseball and Softball playoffs, third round games are scheduled for Tuesday as the fields continue to be trimmed down leading to the various State Championship Series (two out of three games) on Friday & Saturday, June 1 & 2.
In addition to some outstanding individual performances in golf, tennis and track & field, a total of 23 teams from high schools in Randolph County qualified for the playoffs in six sports:

May 14, 2018 – American Legion Baseball begins play this week across North Carolina.
Randolph County Post 45 is scheduled to begin defense of their 2017 State Championship Thursday night in Albemarle against Stanly County Post 76. The two teams meet again Friday night at McCrary Park. Randolph County will then host Greensboro Saturday night in a non-league matchup and end the weekend hosting Mocksville-Davie in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader. Evening games start at 7:00, the doubleheader Sunday is scheduled for 3:00 with game two at 5:30.
Eastern Randolph Post 81 opens the season this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders at Grady Lawson Field. Apex is the opponent for Saturday with two games scheduled for 4:30 and 7:00. Then Sunday it's Post 81 hosting Garner at 2:00 and 4:30.
Start times for the second games in all of the doubleheaders is approximate as those games typically begin from 20 to 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

Wheatmore Track competed in the Midwest 2A regional meet on Saturday May 12.
- Nathan Christenbury ran a 17.01 in the the 110 meter hurdles.
- The Men's 4x100 relay ran a 45.07 and set a new school record (Wyatt Garrison, Blake Sheets, Jackson Powell, Jordan Kight).
- Neva Hippert jumped 7'-6" in pole vault and ran a 28.83 in the 200 meter dash. Neva also set a new school record for the 400 meter dash with her time of 1:06.69.
- Nathan Christenbury jumped 9'-0" in pole vault.
- Chris Lockhart had a break-out day in pole vault and jumped a school record with his best jump of 10'-6".
- KhaLi Winningham qualified for finals in 100 meter hurdles with her time of 17.71.
- The women's 4x200 relay ran a 2:00.27 and set a new school record.

Trey Cooper earned the complete game win with 16 strikeouts.

The Patriots had nine base runners through the first four innings but could only score a single run due to the Nash Central defense turning four doubleplays.
Jackson Jones and Andrew Poteat both singled at the start of the third with Jones scoring on a sacrifice fly by Connor Patterson for a 1-0 lead. Levi Adams walked to lead off the sixth and moved to third on a single by Jordan Hodges. Jacob Switzer drove in Adams with a single then Hodges scored on a Jones bunt sacrifice down the first base line.
Evan Stern and Switzer combined on the shutout. Stern pitched into the fifth allowing two hits for the win, Switzer picked up the save.

Washington scored in the first inning on a single, error and an rbi single and kept their 1-0 lead through three innings.
Marion Goins led off the fourth with a single and was moved around on a ground-out before scoring on a Courtnee Carter single to tie the game at 1-1.
In the fifth inning, the Pam Pack scored what would turn out to be the winning run on a fielding error.
The Lady Cats got runners to second and third in both the sixth and seventh innings but could not score.
Carter and Kelsey Craven had two hits each for Eastern Randolph as the Lady Cats end the year with a 13-9 record.
#3 Providence Grove 7, #19 Beddingfield 6
The Providence Grove Patriots and the Beddingfield Bruins took four innings to figure out how to score against each other. And then they did.
In the fifth inning, Gabri Hessenthaler and Maddy Hunt singled and both scored on an Anna Thomas triple to give the Patriots the lead. Thomas later scored on an error and Alli Young was driven in by Tatum Smith and the home team was ahead 4-0.
Beddingfield got one run back in the top of the sixth then stranded two Patriots in scoring position in the bottom of the inning.
In the seventh, the Bruins used two walks, two singles, a double and two PG errors to push across five runs and take their first lead at 6-4.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Sam Welch hit a solo home run (her fourth of the year) to make the Providence Grove deficit 6-5. Then with two outs, Carson Williams picked up her first hit of the night and was replaced on the base paths by Kaylee Bowman. Makenna Sibbett made her first appearance at the plate and delivered a pinch-hit single. When Sibbett's hit wasn't fielded cleanly in the outfield, Bowman scored to tie the game and Sibbett moved to second base. Leadoff batter Gabri Hessenthaler then delivered her third hit of the night and Patriots Coach Tim Brown showed no hesitation in sending Sibbett home. The sophomore slid across the plate as the throw came in high and Providence Grove improved to 22-0 and are moving on to round three for the second time in school history.

The Patriots advanced to the second round for the the first time since 2014 and added to their school record win total with a home win over East Duplin.
A dropped third strike followed by two throwing errors allowed Providence Grove a 2-0 lead in the first inning. They added two more in the third before East Duplin scored their run in the fourth inning.
Kaleb Lowe had three hits for PG. Jordan Hodges got the win in relief. Connor Patterson started the game but left because of an injury after two innings.
Providence Grove is now 22-5 on the year.

Eastern Plains Conference Champions Nash Central ended Eastern Randolph's season Wednesday night in Rocky Mount.
Colton Craven pitched four innings allowing the five runs – only one of which was earned – and took the loss. Mason Canoy pitched scoreless baseball in the final two innings.
The home team was perfect defensively until Michael Glasgow singled with two outs in the sixth. Landon Smith had a hit in the seventh.

The top 2A team from the Coastal 8 1A/2A Conference needed an extra inning against the Tigers but eventually ended the Randleman's season in Richlands.

Hailee Cagle scored both Cougar runs in a 4-for-4 night at the plate but Southwestern Randolph fell to Northern Guilford in the opening round of the 3A playoffs.

The Lady Cats fought through 12 innings to pick up the first round win in the 2A playoffs. Savannah Beaver went the distance with nine strikeouts.
Nicole Cox scored in the first inning for on a throwing error. Kelsey Craven led off the 6th inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Beaver. Marion Goins had three hits including a sixth inning double which led to pinch runner Leighanna Ward scoring to put Eastern up 3-2.
Bunn tied the game in the seventh and the scoring stopped until Shyanne Gay led off the twelfth inning with her fourth hit of the night. Gay moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cox, to third on a passed ball and scored the game ender on a sacrifice fly by Brooklyn Rush.

A first inning error allowed East Montgomery's only run to score but the lead was short-lived as Ramsey Petty drove in Mason Matthews with a double in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
Dominick Poole hit his first home run of the season in the third to put Randleman in front 2-1. The Tigers added insurance runs in the sixth.
Matt Kemp and Poole combined on the no-hitter to send Randleman into the second rouns of the 2A playoffs.

The Burns Bulldogs advanced in the 3A playoffs by limiting the Cougars to four hits in four separate innings. Bryce Marsh had two hits, including a double, and Parker LaPlant had the other two hits. LaPlant's fourth inning single drove in Luke Johnson and Chris Hardin for the Cougar runs.

The Knights took the lead in the first inning and held on for the shutout against visiting Wheatmore in the 2A playoffs Tuesday night. Hunter Smith led the Warriors with two hits and Gabe Hernandez added a double but Wheatmore was unable to scratch any runs.

FOXFIRE VILLAGE, NC – The NCHSAA 1A Men’s Golf championship came to an exciting end at Foxfire Resort’s Red Fox Course. Highland Tech’s Addison Beam held off Thomas Jefferson’s Pierce Robinson by a single shot to win the individual crown with a 6-over-par 150.
Stephen Spencer of Uwharrie Charter Academy shot 153 and finished in fourth place.
WHISPERING PINES, NC – The NCHSAA 2A Men’s Golf individual championship went to Midway’s Logan Patrick who shot a 1-under 71 on day one, following that up with a 1-over 73 on day two to finish at even-par for the tournament, 144.
Connor Lineberry of Randleman had the top finish among county golfers completing the two-day tournament in a tie for 18th. Wheatmore's Brodie Perry finished in a tie for 42nd place.
SOUTHERN PINES, NC – West Carteret’s Ethan Hall was dominant on day two of the 3A Men’s Golf State Championship at Longleaf Golf and Family Club. Hall posted a 4-under 68 Tuesday, the lowest round of the tournament, on his way to the 3A Individual Title.
Asheboro's Sam Davidson finished in a tie for fifth place at 151, seven over par.

An eagle on the par five 16th hole and a birdie on number 17 helped Asheboro golfer Sam Davidson to a tie for second place after the first round of the 3A state tournament at Longleaf Golf & Country Club in Southern Pines. Davidson and Alex Goff of Kings Mountain High School are one stroke behind MPC golfer Garrett Clark of Burlington's Williams High School.
On the Red course at Foxfire Resort & Golf in Jackson Springs, Stephen Spencer of Uwharrie Charter Academy balanced out his 43 on the front with a 37 on the back for an eight-over-par 80 in round one. Other UCA golfers in the 1A tournament are Barrett Dozier, Camden Walker and Chase Davis.
As a team, the UCA Eagles scored 372 and are in 7th place of the 12 teams which qualified for the championship tournament.
The 2A Championship is being played at the Country Club of Whispering Pines where Connor Lineberry of Randleman finished the first round in sixth place with a six-over-par 78. Lineberry and his Tiger teammates – Henry Johnson, Jacob Turner, Robby Rich and Tanner McGee totaled a 365 in team competition which leaves them in 9th place after round one.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association will be seeding teams for the championship tournaments in baseball, softball and women's soccer. Look for updates throughout the day from SportsTone as match-ups for area teams become available.
May 6, 2018 – Eleven Randolph County golfers have qualified for the Men's Golf Championship Tournaments which begin Monday in the Pinehurst area.
Asheboro's Sam Davidson will play in the 3A Tournament at Longleaf Golf & Country Club in Southern Pines.
The 2A Tournament will be held at the Country Club of Whispering Pines with Brodie Perry of Wheatmore and the Randleman Tigers competing as a team (and individually). The Randleman roster includes Conner Lineberry, Henry Johnson, Tanner McGee, Jacob Turner and Robby Rich.
Uwharrie Charter Academy qualified as a team for the 1A State Tournament at Foxfire Resort & Golf Club in Jackson Springs. Stephen Spencer, Barrett Dozier, Camden Walker and Chase Davis will represent the Eagles.
The two-day tournaments will conclude at those same courses on Tuesday.
May 4, 2018 – The NCHSAA has announced that playoff seeding for baseball, softball and soccer will take place on Monday, May 7.
SportsTone will provide that information as soon as it becomes available.

Providence Grove 5, Jordan-Matthews 1
The Patriots added the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament Championship to their 2018 resume using a four run outburst in the sixth inning to remain undefeated and earn their twentieth win of the season. Providence Grove has not lost since being eliminated from last season's state tournament on May 16, 2017 by Jordan-Matthews.
Anna Thomas earned her 19th win of the season. After getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the first, Thomas allowed one run on two second inning hits. She walked a batter in the third and the final Jets baserunner reached on an error in the fourth.
Gabriella Hessenthaler had two hits for the Patriots. Abbi Young, Hessenthaler and Maddy Hunt each hit doubles in the big sixth inning.
Southern Alamance 6, Southwestern Randolph 5 (9 innings)
Conference Champion Southern Alamance defeated Southwestern Randolph by one run for the third time this season and won the Mid-Piedmont Conference Tournament in nine innings.
Samantha Lagrama was just short of the cycle for the Cougars with a single, double and three run home run. Emily Johnson hit a solo home run and Alex Coleman was three for three at the plate.
BASEBALL
Providence Grove 4, Randleman 3
The Tigers started the scoring with two runs in the first inning. The Patriots tied the game with single runs in the third and fourth only to see Randleman go back in front 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth. What turned out to be the winning runs came on back-to-back hits by Kaleb Lowe and Levi Adams in the fifth inning and Providence Grove held off a seventh inning rally to win the PAC 7 Tournament Championship game.
Wheatmore 6, Eastern Randolph 1
The Warriors and Wildcats played a tie-breaker game Thursday and Wheatmore came out on top behind the pitching of Gabe Hernandez who went all seven innings allowing three hits with nine strikeouts. Hernandez and Hunter Smith each had two hits for Wheatmore.
The teams finished the regular season tied for third place and since neither advanced to the tournament championship game, the extra game was required to break the tie.

The Falcons advanced to the MPC Tournament Championship game as Asheboro could only manage a single run in the first inning. Trevor Marsh had two hits and the RBI, driving in his brother Tatum Marsh.

The Cougars were held to just three hits in the second semi-final game. Bryce Marsh recorded two hits and scored the run on a hit by Braxton Davis.

Uwharrie Charter golfers participated in the 1A Mideast Regional at Kerr Lake Country Club where UCA's Stephen Spencer won the event with a 79.
As a team, Spencer, Camden Walker, Barrett Dozier and Chase Davis finished third and qualified for next weeks State Championship Tournament at Foxfire Golf & Result.

Southwestern Randolph 10, Asheboro 0
Blair Lamb and Alex Coleman had three hits each for the Cougars. Samantha Lagrama and Emily Johnson had two hits and Heaven Maness added a solo home run as Southwestern Randolph moved on to the MPC Tournament Championship game. Autumn Springer earned the win with five strikeouts and only one hit allowed.

The Patriots broke a 5-5 tie with three runs in the sixth to win their PAC 7 semi-final game against Eastern Randolph. Jordan Hodges pitched the final inning and two-thirds for the win.
Drew Needham and Jackson Jones had three hits each for PG. Landon Smith led ER with two hits and two runs scored.

Nick Neal and Tyler Yates homered for the Tigers and Dominick Poole added two doubles in Randleman's PAC 7 semi-final win over Jordan-Matthews.
Matt Kemp struck out 10 in five innings on the mound.
Asheboro 14, Eastern Guilford 4
Alex Hamilton pitched a scoreless first inning before being replaced by Dawson Davis after being hit by a pitch in the top of the second. Davis pitched four innings and earned the MPC tournament win.
Davis and Avery Jones each had three hits. Trevor Marsh and Austin Curry scored four runs apiece
TRACK & FIELD
Wheatmore's women's team won their first ever Conference Championship in the Tuesday meet at TW Andrews High School. The Warriors edged Randleman 139 to 138 for the conference title.
Randleman also finished second in the men's championship which was won by Andrews.
PAC 7 COMPLETE RESULTS
Southeast Guilford hosted the Mid-Piedmont Conference Championship meet and won the men's title handily – 185 to 123 – ahead of second place Southern Guilford.
Williams was six and a half points better than SEG for the women's title, 134.5 to 128.

MEN'S GOLF REGIONALS
Regional tournaments were held Monday for area 2A and 3A golfers and golf teams.
Connor Lineberry of Randleman won the 2A Mideast Regional with a 72 followed by Wheatmore's Brodie Perry in second place with a 75. Both advanced to the 2A State Championship Tournament next week at the Country Club of Whispering Pines.
Asheboro golfer Sam Davidson finished in a tie with Bennett Wooten of Mt Tabor for the 3A Midwest Regional Championship. Both golfers shot 72 and qualified for the 3A State Championship Tournament at Longleaf Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday, May 7 & 8.
The top 3 teams from each regional advanced to the State Finals. In the 2A Mideast Regional, Midway High School (331), Clinton High School (339 and Randleman High School (347) advanced. Wheatmore also shot 347 on the Land O' Lakes course but lost the tiebreaker to the Tigers. Providence Grove (383) finished in 9th place.
In the 3A Midwest Regional at Greensboro National, Marvin Ridge High School (310), Mt Tabor High School (311) and East Rowan High School (326) advanced. Asheboro (339) finished 7th as a team.

Emma Trotter and Annabeth Trotter scored the goals, Jenna Brinkley recorded the assists and Angie Pincus recorded the shutout in goal. Grace Roberts and Madison Priest anchored the defense.
SOFTBALL
SW Randolph 9, Southern Guilford 0
Courtney Chriscoe allowed three hits and struck out nine to pick up the win and was 3 for 3 at the plate as the Cougars eliminated the Storm from the MPC tournament. Alex Coleman was 2 for 3 and Samantha Lagrama had two doubles with three RBI.
Uwharrie Charter 15, South Davidson 0
Triples by Haedyn Hill, Makenzie Webster, Gail Sink and Saylor Beeson helped propel the Eagles into the YC Tournament semi-finals.
BASEBALL
Jordan-Matthews 16, Wheatmore 3
The Jets scored four runs in the second inning, six in the third, one in the fifth and squashed any Warrior hopes with five more in the seventh to advance to the PAC 7 tournament semi-finals. Wheatmore managed just two hits in the game, Jeremiah Hodge singled in the sixth and Nick Halo in the seventh inning.
Eastern Randolph 8, Trinity 6
Trinity scored six runs in the first two innings but Eastern scored four in the both the fourth and sixth to advance to the PAC 7 tournament semi-finals. Eric Kidd got the win in relief while Cole McCrary suffered the loss.
Every Bulldog starter had at least one hit in the game with McCrary and Cameron Moser driving in two runs apiece. Kidd, Nyk Foland and Colton Craven each had two hits for the Wildcats.
