The second official season of American Legion Softball begins Tuesday night with both Randolph County teams opening up on their home fields. For the 2019 season, Western Randolph Post 45 will once again play their home games at Randleman High School while Eastern Randolph Post 81 will use Allen Leonard Memorial Park in Ramseur as their home field. Locally, Leonard Park is sometimes referred to as Brooklyn Park.
Post 81 and Post 45 finished first and second, respectively, in their conference last season and met for the Conference Championship in late July. Post 81 won the title and advanced to the State Tournament where they finished in third place.
Lady Legion Softball has expanded this year and both county squads will join new teams from Alamance County and Orange County in Division 1 of Area 3. Alamance will play their home games at Southern Alamance High School. Orange County is playing all road games in their first season.
Like last year, the schedule involves games on Tuesday and Thursday nights beginning at 7:00 although the start time can vary if both teams agree in advance. Conference matchups will consist of two five inning doubleheaders while non-conference meetings are doubleheaders by default but can be changed to a single, seven inning game if both teams agree.
