July 24, 2018 - The American Legion Junior State Tournament was shortened and washed out in eastern North Carolina but has found new life in Asheboro.
Mocksville and Windsor will play at McCrary Park for the 2018 State Champioship.
Weather permitting.
Game time is 1:00 pm Wednesday for the matchup between the Area 1 and Area 3 champions. They were the final unbeaten teams when constant rain forced an end to the double elimination tournament in Manteo on Monday. A Tuesday afternoon game between the two teams was scheduled in Winterville but weather also prevented that meeting from happening.
Before the rains came, Mocksville defeated Rutherford County 9-4 and Dare County 9-0. Windsor defeated Randolph County 6-1 and South Caldwell 7-6 in 8 innings.
July 24, 2018 - UPDATED
Social media messages from Mocksville-Davie Legion Baseball indicate today's game has been canceled and the Junior Legion Tournament is officially over. No other information is currently available.
According to reports from NC Piedmont Sports, weather has forced the American Legion Junior State Tournament to skip a round.
With four teams remaining in the double elimination tournament, the two teams which had already suffered one loss – South Caldwell and Rutherford County – have been eliminated. That leaves the last two unbeaten teams to play a single, winner-take-all, championship game today.
Mocksville will face Windsor for the 2018 junior championship at 1:00 this afternoon. The site also had to be changed because of weather and field conditions. The championship game will be played at Pitt Community College in Winterville. PCC hosted the Senior State Tournament last summer.
