The 28th Annual Courier-Tribune Christmas Invitational boys tournament concluded Saturday night with Asheboro defeating Wheatmore 50-47 for the Comet's fourth tournament title.
Randleman defeated Trinity for third place in this year's tournament with Southwestern Randolph taking fifth place over Jordan-Matthews and Providence Grove defeating Eastern Randolph in the seventh place game.

December 22, 2018 – HOLIDAY BASKETBALL
The 28th Annual Courier-Tribune Christmas Invitational girls tournament concluded Saturday night with Southwestern Randolph defeating Providence Grove 63-35 for the Cougar's sixth tournament title.
The win marks back-to-back championships for the Cougars who improved their overall record to 11-0.
Asheboro defeated Randleman for third place in this year's tournament with Wheatmore taking fifth place over Jordan-Matthews and Eastern Randolph defeating Trinity in the seventh place game.
The 28th annual event will continue after Christmas with boys action beginning on Thursday, December 27th at Asheboro High School.

Mia Leonard of Uwharrie Charter Academy has been honored by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. A junior, Leonard set multiple school records for the Eagles basketball team last week and received the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award.

December 11, 2018 – FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
State football championships are this weekend in the Triangle.
Friday night at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill the 3AA Championship will be decided between Southeast Guilford (14-1) and Weddington (14-1). Game time is 7:30 for that game as well as the 4AA title game between Wake Forest (13-0) and Zebulon B Vance High School (14-1) which will be played at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham.
Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh will host three games Saturday.
At 11 AM, Northeastern (14-0) will face Reidsville (15-0) for the 2A title, followed by North Davidson (13-2) versus Shelby (12-3) for the 2AA Championship at 2:30. The final game in Raleigh will kick off at 6 PM between Tarboro (14-0) and East Surry (11-3) for the 1AA Championship.
In Chapel Hill Saturday, the 3A finals will match Jacksonville (11-1) against Charlotte Catholic (14-1) beginning at 11 AM at Kenan Stadium.
The first of two games to be played at Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday will kick off at 3 PM as Pamlico (13-1) plays Murphy (12-1) in the 1A Championship game. At 7 PM Saturday, Scotland County (9-5) will face East Forsyth (14-0) in Durham.
