June 28, 2020 – Sunday Results

NC 3 BASEBALL

Randolph County 6, Kannapolis 5

Randolph County used a five run third inning to erase a 3-0 deficit but Kannapolis tied the game in the fifth inning.

Consecutive hits by Braxton Davis, Blake Marsh and Easton Morgan in the bottom of the seventh led to the walk-off win. Marsh and Morgan had three hits apiece.

Caleb Walker pitched the final two innings for the win.

High Point-Thomasville 4, Randolph County 1

High Point scored three runs in the first inning and held off Randolph to get the non-league win at McCrary Park.

Two of Randolph's three hits happened in the fifth inning when Easton Morgan tripled and the scored on a single by Bryson Hamlet. Bryson Marsh had the other Randolph County hit.


June 26, 2020 – Friday Results

NC 3 BASEBALL

Randolph County 6, High Point-Thomasville 5

Four players had multiple hits and six pitchers saw action for Randolph County with Dawson Davis earning the win and Easton Morgan picking up the save.

Spencer Lanier, Morgan, Tatum Marsh and Blake Marsh all recorded two hits.


June 20, 2020 – SUMMER BASEBALL

Randolph County teams will begin play next week but the first games in the NC 3 American League Baseball season are scheduled for today. SportsTone will track scores and standings for senior teams on the NC 3 Baseball page.


June 18, 2020 – ASHEBORO BASKETBALL

Don Corry will return to Asheboro High School as the women's varsity basketball coach. Corry spent three years guiding Asheboro, leaving after the Blue Comets put up a 24-5 record in the 2010-11 season. Among other places, he has also coached at Southwestern Randolph and, most recently, East Davidson where Corry's Golden Eagles went 30-2 in 2015-16 and finished as 2A runner-up to State Champion North Pitt.

Corry replaces David Hayes who recently announced his departure for Thomasville High School.


June 11, 2020 – CLICK IT OR TICKET

Winners of the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program Click it or Ticket Scholar-Athlete essay contest have been announced. Hunter Epps, a junior at Southwestern Randolph and sophomore Lauryn Taylor of Green Level High School won top honors in the competition.

June 11, 2020 – COLLEGE COMMITTMENT

Eastern Randolph's Cade Snotherly has signed with Western Carolina University to continue his academic and football career. A three-sport athlete who excelled academically, Snotherly received All-Conference and All-Region honors following his senior football season with the Wildcats.

The Catamounts compete in the Southern Conference.


June 11, 2020 – ASHEBORO COPPERHEADS

On Wednesday, the Asheboro Copperheads announced that they would not field a team in 2020. The local Coastal Plain League team joins Florence, SC, Holly Springs, NC and Colonial Heights, VA in suspending baseball operations for the 2020 season. All plan to return to the field in 2021.

June 10, 2020 – COLLEGE COMMITTMENT

Brooklyn Rush has signed with Belmont Abbey College to continue her academic and softball career. The Eastern Randolph senior was named to the PAC 7 All-Conference team following her junior season with a .383 batting average and was a co-leader for thw Wildcats with 28 rbi.

The Belmont Abbey Crusaders compete in Conference Carolinas.


June 8, 2020 – ASHEBORO BASKETBALL

David Hayes has announced that he has accepted a teaching position at Thomasville High School.

In three seasons as head coach of women's basketball at Asheboro, Hayes' teams won 54 games against 30 losses. The Blue Comets won the MPC Tournament Championship in 2019 and advanced to the 3A West Region semi-finals.

Hayes will teach Physical Education and will also be an assistant coach with the Bulldog's football program under head coach Kevin Gillespie.


June 8, 2020 – NCHSAA ATHLETICS

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced today that the state-wide "dead period" for athletics will be lifted on Monday, June 15 although local guidelines set by district superintendents and local school boards may still be in effect in some areas.

The NCHSAA is allowing athletics to resume in phases recommended by the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee which align with NC Department of Health and Human Services directives.

"The guidance utilizes a phased approach for NCHSAA athletes and is intended to help school administrators, coaches, parents, students, and communities navigate a gradual reopening of high school athletic activities" according to the NCHSAA webpage announcement.

Guidelines for Phase One are to provide guidance for member schools to consider in designing return-to-activity protocols in accordance with state, county and NCHSAA restrictions. Those guidelines can be found HERE.

June 1, 2020 - SUMMER BASEBALL

NC 3 American League Baseball has announced a start date of June 15 for exhibition and non-league contests. League games will be allowed beginning on July 1, 2020. The league will fill the gap left by American Legion Baseball which was canceled this year because of the coronavirus.

The 19-and-under and the 17-and-under leagues will be the focus of Tuesday night's On The Ball program on SportsTone.net beginning at 7:00pm.
