LEGION BASEBALL
Mt Airy 12, Eastern Randolph 2
Eastern Randolph led briefly on Jordan Burrough's 2-run homerun but couldn't slow the Post 123 bats and fell in the opener at Mt Airy High School. Burrough took the loss in his first start for Post 81.
Eastern Randolph 5, Mt Airy 4
In a back-and-forth second game, Maddox Smith got the complete game win scattering 8 hits with 4 walks and 10 strikeouts in seven innings.
Post 81 was the home team and managed a 3-run second inning to take a 3-1 lead as Connor Murphy, Trevor Golden and Travis Boone scored. Murphy scored again in the fourth on a hit by Jordan Burrough for a 4-3 Post 81 lead.
After Mt Airy tied the game again, Boone drove in Golden for what turned out to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Randolph 13, Greensboro 3
After Greensboro scored 2 in the top of the first, Randolph took the lead on a Parker LaPlant grand slam and never gave it up. LaPlant finished with 3 hits and 5 rbi. Tatum Marsh, Adam Cole, Harris Jackson and Alex Martinez also had multiple hits.
On the mound, LaPlant got the complete game win allowing 3 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings. He had 3 strikeouts with no walks.

LEGION BASEBALL
Randolph County 11, Eastern Randolph 5
Post 81 struck first with a solo home run by Connor Murphy, but Post 45 scored the next 11 runs before Eastern Randolph scored the final 4.
Murphy ended the night with 3 hits to lead the Post 81 defense. Starting pitcher Jacob Ray took the loss.
Tanner Marsh had 3 singles for Post 45 and scored twice. There were 2 hits each by Tatum Marsh, Adam Cole and Carson Whitehead. Hunter Hill worked 5 innings for the win allowing 1 run on 3 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts.

Post 45 led from the beginning in this non-division game against Post 87 racing out to a 10-0 lead after three innings. Winning pitcher Harris Jackson worked the first 4 innings giving up no runs on 3 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Coleman Burris gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk with 3 strikeouts in 3 innings of relief.
Adam Cole had 3 hits for Randolph County driving in 4 and scoring twice. Tatum Marsh scored 3 runs with an rbi on 2 hits while Parker LaPlant and Tanner Marsh both added 2 rbi and 2 hits to the total. Tatum Marsh and Blake Marsh both recorded triples in the game.
June 27, 2021 – SOFTBALL ALL-STATE
The North Carolina Softball Coaches Association has named eight Randolph County players to their 2021 All-State Team. Honorees include:
Savannah Beaver, Courtnee Carter and Dori Luther from Eastern Randolph.
Makayla McClain and Emma Mazzarone from Providence Grove.
Bethany Dobias, Sarah Rice and Emily Roach from Randleman.
The NCSCA accepts player nominations from member coaches which are then reviewed by selection committees for district-wide and then state-wide recognition.

RHS: Brooks Brannon provided 2 hits with single hits by Owen Strickland, Trey Way (rbi), Braylen Hayes and Kaden Ethier (run scored). Way pitched the complete game giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
GAME 3: #10 Randleman 4, #6 Rutherford-Spindale Central 0
RHS: A complete game no-hitter by Ryan White secured the decisive third game for the Tigers in the 2021 2A Baseball Championship Series. White walked 2 batters and struck out 11 in seven innings of work. White was named Series MVP for his performance on the mound.
There were 2 hits by Brooks Brannon (2 rbi) and Kaden Ethier (run scored). Single hits by Trey Way (run) and Hunter Atkins (2 rbi, run). Owen Strickland also scored for the Tigers who recorded all four runs in the bottom of the third inning.
This was the second baseball championship for the Tigers.

Randolph 17, Kinston 9
After Kinston scored twice in the first, Randolph County scored in each of their offensive innings - including 5 runs in both the fourth and sixth - to take and maintain the lead.
Cameron Fordham pitched 5 innings for the win before Tanner Marsh worked the final 2 innings.
Harris Jackson, Parker LaPlant and Tanner Marsh each provided 2 hits for Post 45. Caleb Walker, Tatum Marsh and Jackson hit doubles. Blake Marsh was 1 for 1 with 4 walks, an rbi and 4 runs scored.
Greensboro 10, Eastern Randolph 0
Post 82 had 6 hits but were unable to score against Greensboro Post 53 leaving 7 runners on the basepaths in 5 innings of offense. Travis Boone was 2 for 2 with a double while Eastern Randolph got single hits from Aiden Allred, Brodie Gardner, Alex Choim and Jordan Burroughs.
Maddox Smith (3 innings) and Carson Burnette (2 innings) saw time on the mound for Post 81.

RHS: Randleman used a 7 run third inning to take the lead on their way to the Game One win.
Two hits by Braylen Hayes (double, 3 rbi, run) and Andrew Cox (run). Single hits by Trey Way (double, 2 runs), Hunter Atkins (rbi, 2 runs), Bryson Sweatt (run) and Kaden Ethier (run).
Braylen Hayes (3 runs, 7 hits, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts) and winning pitcher Andrew Cox (2 runs, 4 hits, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts) threw 2.2 innings each. Drake Purvis (3 strikeouts) pitched the final 1.2 innings.
Game Two in the best-of-three championship series is Saturday at 2 pm.
WOMEN'S TENNIS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
PAC7 Players at Cary Tennis Park
The Wheatmore doubles team of Taylor and Kara Comer advanced to the quarterfinal round before falling being eliminated from the 2A Championship Tournament.
Hannah Carter (WHS) and Emily Roach (RHS) also capped off great seasons by qualifying for the state finals but were also eliminated on day one of the event.

Starting pitcher Blake Marsh did not get a decision but drove in 5 runs with a double and a triple to help Post 45 to the win. Marsh left the mound in the fourth inning due to injury but stayed in the game as Hunter Hill made his first appearance of the legion season and eventually got the win. Cameron Fordham pitched the final two innings.
Randolph got two hits by Blake Marsh (double, triple, 5 rbi, run scored), Harris Jackson (home run, double, 3 rbi, 2 runs) and Adam Cole (double, run). There were single hits by Tatum Marsh (triple, rbi, 2 runs) and Tanner Marsh (2 runs).

Tatum Marsh took over for Parker LaPlant in the fifth inning and finished the game on the mound to get the win. The pair gave up 2 runs on 3 hits with 8 strikeouts and 13 walks. The Post 45 defense turned double plays in the first, third and fifth innings and stranded a dozen Post 87 runners on the bases.
Randolph County got single hits from Tatum Marsh (2 rbi, run, sac fly), Braxton Davis (triple, rbi), Tanner Marsh (double) and Harris Jackson (triple, run). Adam Cole had a sacrifice fly for an rbi.

Post 81 was unable to get anything going offensively against Post 87 left-hander Derrick Martinez (Ragsdale '20) who made 14 appearances as a freshman for the NC A & T Aggies this spring. Martinez struck out 7 Eastern Randolph batters and gave up 1 walk in the five inning win for High Point-Thomasville.
June 21, 2021 – MID-PIEDMONT HONORS
The Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference has announced All-Conference selections for Women's Tennis, Wrestling and Baseball for the 2021 season.
Twenty-nine student-athletes from Randolph County were honored for their work on the court, mat and diamond this year including the Player of the Year in Baseball - Bryson Hogan of Southwestern Randolph, as well as Coaches of the Year Wes Berrier and Brett Hoogkamp, both from Asheboro High School.
Asheboro High School also won the Sportsmanship Award in the conference.

Post 45 got 2 hits from Blake Marsh, including a double, and 2 hits by from Tatum Marsh. There were single hits by Adam Cole, Braxton Davis, Parker LaPlant and Collin Dunlap. Braxton Davis and Coleman Burris shared time on the mound with Davis taking the loss.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning, Parker LaPlant drove in Carson Whitehead and Coleman Burris to bring Randolph Post 45 to within 9-8 of Eastern Randolph Post 81. Braxton Davis then doubled in Blake Marsh and LaPlant to end the game.
Four players had 2 hits for Randolph: Adam Cole (rbi), LaPlant (2 rbi, 2 runs), Davis (home run, double, 3 rbi, run) and Tatum Marsh (double, rbi, run). There were single hits by Burris (double), Whitehead and Caleb Walker (triple). Tanner Marsh pitched the final four innings and got the win.

Tanner Marsh had 2 hits (double, 2 rbi, run), as did Avery Jones (2 doubles, 2 rbi), and Caleb Walker (double, run). Single hits by Tatum Marsh (double, rbi), Gage Miller (run) and Josh Meadows (double, run). Caleb Walker pitched 4 innings before giving way to Tanner Marsh who also got the win.

UCA: Hunter Hill (WP) and Mason Little pitched 2 innings each before Colt Wilkins closed out the game combining for 6 strikeouts in the 5 inning shut out. Hunter Hill and Caleb Stickle had 2 hits each. Logan Sawyer, Stickle and Hill each had 2 rbi. Sawyer rbi came thanks to an inside the park home run.

PG: Both teams committed 3 errors but North Lenoir produced 4 extra runs for the win. Zander Smith gave up 6 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings of work but only 2 of the runs were earned. The Blue Comets won three Mid-Piedmont Conference Championships - Women's Basketball, Wrestling and Baseball – and finished third in the Wells Fargo Cup standings: Southern Alamance 83.5, Southeast Guilford 81, Asheboro 76, Williams 70.5, Southwestern Randolph 46.5, Eastern Guilford 39.5 and Southern Guilford 23.
Asheboro won the Sportsmanship award from the MPC and had two coaches honored as Coach of the Year in the conference: Wes Berrier (Wrestling) and Brett Hoogkamp (Baseball).

Drawings were held today to break ties in the MPC baseball standings for first place (Asheboro and Southeast Guilford) and third place (SW Randolph and Southern Alamance).
For seeding purposes in this year's state playoffs, the top four teams are:
1 Asheboro (10-2, 12-2)
2 Southeast Guilford (10-2, 11-3)
3 Southwestern Randolph (8-4, 10-4)
4 Southern Alamance (8-4, 10-4)
Asheboro and Southeast Guilford are automatic qualifiers for the state tournament. Southwestern Randolph and Southern Alamance will have to qualify as 'wild card' teams in order to make the post-season field.
Due to bad weather across the state this week, the NCHSAA has added Saturday as an extra game day and will seed teams for the playoffs Sunday afternoon instead of Saturday.

Thirteen Randolph County softball players have been named to the All-District team by the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association including Randleman's Bethany Dobias who has been recognized as District 5 Co-Player of the Year for 2021.
District 5 includes Randolph, Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Rockingham and Stokes Counties. Players are nominated by their NCSCA member coaches to selection committees for the various districts.
