WOMEN'S SOCCER – PLAYOFFS (West Regional Final)
#2 Wheatmore 4, #1 Wilkes Central 3 (OT)
Ellie Garrison scored all four Warrior goals to lead the offense and extend her record total for goals scored by a sophomore to 76 for the season. The previous record was 64 goals set in 2011. The first and last goals came on penalty kicks while the middle goals were scored off assists by Summer Bowman.

Randolph County 8, Eastern Randolph 7
Post 81 took an early 3-0 lead before falling behind 6-3. Eastern then took a 7-6 lead after six innings but Post 45 scored 2 in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off win.
Luke Thomas worked 6 innings allowing 6 runs on 8 hits with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. Chance Terry pitched two-thirds of an inning in the seventh and took the loss with 2 runs on 2 hits. Thomas (2 doubles, rbi, run) had 3 hits to lead the Eastern Randolph offense. Aiden Allred (2 doubles, rbi, run) also had 2 hits.
Blake Marsh was the fourth pitcher used by Post 45 and got the win with a hitless seventh inning. Tatum Marsh (home run, 2 rbi, 2 runs) had another 3-for-4 night with a home run to tie the game in the seventh. Blake Marsh (2 hits, 2 rbi, run) and Tyler Parks (rbi, 2 runs) also hit home runs, both in the first inning. Parks scored the winning run on a single by Josh Meadows.

Post 81 dropped a home game to Foothills Post 123 in 10 innings by a score of 6-4. Eastern Randolph will be back in action tomorrow against Post 45 at Southwestern Randolph.

Landon Williamson got the win giving up 2 runs over 5 innings on 3 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Tatum Marsh (1 IP, 1 run, 2 hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts) and Josh Meadows (1 IP, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts) finished out the game.

After taking a 5-0 lead before thunderstorms halted action in Mooresville Thursday night, the Tigers traveled to Salisbury this afternoon and picked up where they left off. Game 2 in the best of 3 series resumed in the fifth inning with two innings of scoreless ball before Randleman's 4-run seventh put the game - and series - away.
Trey Way had 3 hits in the game (double, 2 runs) and Gus Shelton added a two-run home run in the seventh inning at Newman Park in Salisbury, Shelton and Hunter Atkins both recorded 3 rbi.
Drake Purvis pitched the first four innings at Moors Field and got the win giving up 1 walk with 5 strikeouts. Trey Way worked the 3 innings in Salisbury allowing 1 hit with 4 strikeouts.

All-Conference player Charles Perry IV has signed to play football at Averett University of the USA South Athletic Conference.
Alexander Spruill signed to play football with the Methodist University Monarchs of the USA South Athletic Conference.
Khland Hadley-Lindsey and third team All-State Tramir Martin have signed Pfeiffer University of the USA South Athletic Conference for basketball.
Two All-Conference soccer players, Alex Cruz and Irving Velazquez-Luna have signed with Carolina University in Winston-Salem where the Bruins compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association.
Providence Grove High School
Edi Austin has signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her education and softball career at Louisburg College. The career .505 hitter batted .541 her senior year with 8 triples and 5 home runs. She will be joining a Hurricanes program which is currently riding a 44 game win streak and in action today in the National Junior College Athletic Association championship tournament.

Brooks Brannon hit 2 home runs which ties him with his father Paul Brannon (Kings Mountain HS, 1989) for the most home runs (20) in a season in NC high school baseball history. Brooks produced 6 rbi and scored 3 times.

Starter Connor Adams gave up 2 hits in three scoreless innings. Drew Harmon, Tatum Marsh and Tyler Parks also saw time on the mound.
Three players had 3 hits each: Tanner Marsh (double, home run, 4 rbi, 4 runs), Blake Marsh (3 doubles, rbi, 2 runs) and Adam Cole (double, triple, 2 rbi). Josh Meadows hit his second home run of the season leading off the third inning.

RHS: Drake Purvis gave up 2 hits in 5 innings with 2 hit batters and 9 strikeouts for the win as the Tiger offense broke the state record for team home runs in a season and Trey Way became the record-holder for runs scored in a season by an individual.
Three home runs by the Tigers - two by Trey Way and one by Seth Way - give the 2022 team 56, topping the old record of 55 established by Apex High School in 2000 and matches by East Rutherford in 2007.
Trey Way's 61 runs scored in 2022 is two better that the previous record of 59 set by two different players in 2004 and 2007.

From AHS: The Blue Comets won a great game against Foard High School in the first round of the state playoffs. Tess Moody was on fire and scored both goals for the Blue comets! The first goal was assisted by Natalie Flores. The second goal was unassisted!
Every girl gave all she had and they wouldn't be able to do that without an entire team that challenges each other at practice and pushes each other to be better each game. From the bench to the field this was a TEAM win!
Sarah Allred was an absolute rock in the goal with 9 saves!

Recent commitments by Randolph County student-athletes include David Makupson of Trinity High School who has signed with Queens University for wrestling. David is a four-time All-Conference wrestler who has earned four regional championships and a State Championship. He was also selected All-Conference in football three times as well as competing in cross country and swimming.
The Royals of Queens University will begin transitioning to the Division 1 ASUN Conference (formerly the Atlantic Sun) during the upcoming school year.
Rylan Smith of Wheatmore High School has signed with Guilford College for baseball. Rylan was a four year varsity starter hitting .483 his senior season with 5 doubles, 3 triples and 5 home runs producing an on-base percentage of .589 and a slugging percentage of .931 for the Warriors.
The Quakers are members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Moody, and Flores each had an assist and Luck had 2 assists for the Blue Comets. Defense played very solid and Sarah Allred had 2 saves and preserved the shut out!

From AHS: Asheboro High School took home two wins in a jv-varsity doubleheader.
In varsity action, the Blue Comet ladies took home a 1-0 win in overtime! Madison Luck and Natalie Flores led the charge from midfield with support from Sherleen Barrios and Carlisle Dozier. Madison Arroyo put in the game winning goal with 2 minutes left in the first overtime on a beautiful effort and pass by Natalie Flores!
Defense played very solid and Sarah Allred had 10 saves in goal for Asheboro!

May 7, 2022 – COLLEGE SIGNING
Trinity senior Michael Connelly has signed with High Point University to continue his education as well as his athletic career in Track & Field. The future HPU Panther is this year's Piedmont Athletic Conference champion in 110 meter hurdles. Connelly also placed third in 300 meter hurdles and is a member of the 4x100 meter relay team.
The 2022 2A Track & Field Midwest Regional is Friday, May 13.

RHS: Braylen Hayes recorded 2 grand slams and picked up 8 rbi to lead the offense. Hunter Atkins (home run, double, 3 rbi) and Ryan White (home run, rbi) also had 2 hits. Atkins and Trey Way both scored 4 times. Drake Purvis got the win giving up 2 hits with 1 walk and 11 strikeouts.
THS: Starter Jake Little gave up 6 runs and took the loss. Ethan Willard and Andon Simmons had hits for the Bulldogs.

PG: Edi Austin's home run leading off the bottom of the first inning held up thanks in large part to 18 strikeouts by Emma Mazzarone. Austin had 2 hits while Mailey Way and Maddie Flinchum added 1 hit each. Eighteen strikeouts matches Mazzarone's highest total for the season. She gave up 2 hits with 1 hit batter in the win.
SWR: Caressa King had both Cougar hits and 2 stolen bases. Macie Crutchfield took the loss allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts.

From AHS: The Blue Comet Ladies finished out their week with a 6-0 win against High Point Central. Natalie Flores led the team with 3 goals and one assist. Madison Arroyo had one goal and one assist while Madison Luck had one goal and 2 assists. Carolina Castro Perez had one goal for Asheboro and Samantha Goicochea had one assist for the Lady Comets. Sarah Allred had 9 saves for the Blue Comets including an amazing save on a PK!
We have our last 2 regular season games Monday and Wednesday at Ledford and Montgomery Central.

From AHS: The Blue Comets lost a tight match to North Davidson 1-0. Sherleen Barrios stepped up to help the team in a new position while Natalie Flores and Madison Luck played solid in the midfield. The back line played very strong defense and Sarah Allred had 8 saves in goal for Asheboro.
Luck, Madison Arroyo, and Riley Adams each had 3 shots on goal. Karen Cox and Samantha Goicochea had 2 shots each.

PAC 1A Golfers at Midwest Regional
In today's 1A Midwest Regional, Eastern Randolph's Connor Carter finished in a tie for 2nd place and advanced to the 1A State Championship Match next week.
Ryan Baynard of Wheatmore qualified for the 2A Championship Match in yesterday's 2A Midwest Regional.
The 2022 State Golf Championships are back to 36-hole matches on Monday and Tuesday, May 9 and 10. The 1A championship will be played at Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines. The 2A championship will take place at Foxfire Resort & Golf Club (Red Course) in Jackson Springs.

SWR: Alex Scruggs and Bryson Reid drove in runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Hunter Christian pitched into the seventh inning and took the loss.

From AHS: The Asheboro Blue Comets women's soccer team took home a 4-0 victory against Central Davidson after 80 minutes of "not our best work." In overtime, the Blue Comets scored 4 goals in 11 minutes to seal the win.
Madison Arroyo had 3 goals and Tess Moody had 1. Moody also led the team with 2 assists. Carlisle Dozier and Sherleen Barrios also added assists on the evening. Player of the game Sarah Allred had 15 saves in goal for Asheboro!

Hunter Hill (UCA '21) has been named Rookie Pitcher of the Week in the USA South Athletic Conference. Six scoreless innings in the regular season finale by the NC Wesleyan freshman helped secure the East Division title for the Battling Bishops.
This is the second time Hill has won the award.
