Providence Grove totaled 214 rushing yards with Zane Cheek scoring 2 touchdowns on 102 yards and Zander Cheek scoring once on 71 rushing yards.
Andrew Canter completed 6 passes for 41 yards and Brady Collins was 3-for-4 passing for 46 yards and a Patriots touchdown to Joe Coltrane. Coltrane had 4 catches for 56 yards. Canter was successful on a 37 yard field goal.
Collins, Nathan Hutcherson and Gage Baynes led the Patriots in tackling. Each of them also recoverd fumbles with Hutcherson adding a sack and 4 tackles for loss.
Dominic Payne had 53 rushing yards for the Bulldogs along with 57 passing yards on 8 completions. Jacob Hodges had 2 receptions for 20 yards.
Jaiveon Holmes and Daniel Torreblanca were Trinity's leading tacklers. Jason Brown had 4 tackles, and recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass.

Amarion Moton and Christian Long carried for touchdowns in the first quarter for a 14-0 Tiger lead then Long connected with tight end Chesney Welch and receiver Tyshaun Goldston for two touchdowns apiece in the second quarter for a 42-0 lead at halftime.Riley Edwards scored the lone touchdown in the second half.
Long passed for 170 yards and 4 touchdowns and the Tigers rushed for 218 yards and 3 scores. Moton had 105 rushing yards. Goldston caught 4 passes for 62 yards and Welch had 4 catches for 51 yards.
Chase Farlow recorded his fourth interception of the season and Johnathan Blankenship recovered a Wheatmore fumble.
Jonathan Kelly had 48 yards rushing for Wheatmore. Jacob Ward was 4-for-8 passing for 41 yards in his first start at quarterback.

Devonte Brooks rushed for 160 yards with 3 touchdowns and Ervodd Cassady carried for 128 as the Wildcats totaled 294 yards on the ground. Stratton Barwick completed 4 passes for 29 yards and 2 interceptions.
Easton Clapp was 11-for-20 passing for 108 yards and 2 interceptions. Clapp led the Cougars rushing attack with 37 yards on 14 carries with 1 touchdown. Adam Cole had 26 yards rushing and returned a punt for a score. Sean Adkins had 4 receptions for 47 yards.

From SWR: SWR Girls Tennis defeated Jordan Matthews in non-conference play by a score of 5-4. The singles winners were Andee Bullard 10-6 and Lindsi Brown 10-0. After singles play, the Cougars were down 2 matches to 4 matches and needed all doubles teams to win to take the overall match. That is precisely what they did, winning all three doubles matches for the win.
Doubles winners were Bullard and Allie Popp 8-8 (7-4), Brown and Bethany Latham 8-8 (7-2), and Caroline Farlow and Emily Hamilton 8-4.
The Cougars are now 8-4 overall and 7-1 in the conference.

Easton Clapp passed for 196 yards including touchdown passes to Adam Cole and Marcus Robertson. Clapp also scored twice with 126 rushing yards. Cole had 78 receiving yards and scored twice on the ground with 41 rushing yards. Eli Gravely had 56 receiving yards,
Colton Law recoreded 10 tackles (4 tfl), Jose Flores had 8 tackles (3 tfl) and Caleb Shelton had 2 sacks.
Asheboro was led by Michael Brady's 97 rushing yards and Josh Meadows with 45 yards. Tony McRae had 30 receiving yards from Hamza Khan.

The Wildcats totaled 250 yards rushing with 5 touchdowns and 156 yards passing with another score along with a 2-point conversion run, 2 pat kicks and a safety.
Ervodd Cassady carried for 88 yards and a touchdown, Angel Hernandez had a touchdown with 66 rushing yards, D J Thomas had a 5 yard touchdown run and Devonte Brooks recorded 2 touchdowns and 29 yards rushing.
Stratton Barwick completed 11 passes for 156 yards including a 25 yard scoring throw to Jake Fesmire. Fesmire also made a tackle in the end zone to record a safety.

Caroline Wright from Providence grove was the medalist for the match shooting a 35, while Asheboro's Salem Lee came in second.
Oak Grove took the team win with Providence Grove coming in second, and Asheboro taking third place.
September 19, 2022 – ALUMNI HONOR
In a unanimous vote, the Asheboro City Schools Board of Education recently approved the naming of the AHS gymnasium in honor of Martin Smith (AHS '61).
Smith played basketball and baseball for Asheboro High School and continued in both sports at Catawba College before returning to serve in the Asheboro school system until his retirement in 2004.
In 1976 he guided the Blue Comets boy's basketball team to a Western NC championship and coached the 1986 Asheboro baseball team to the 3A state championship.
Smith accumulated over 1100 wins as coach in boy's basketball, baseball and cross country along with 25 Conference Coach of the Year awards and 28 conference championships.
Martin Smith, as an individual, and the 1986 championship team are both members of the Asheboro High School Athletics Hall of Fame.
Renovations at Asheboro High School are scheduled to be finished in December and a formal naming ceremony is planned for early in 2023.

FOOTBALL

Trinity 18, Carrboro 13
After Carrboro opened the scoring in the middle of the first quarter, Trinity's Brandon Campbell returned the following on-side kickoff 48 yards for a Bulldogs touchdown and trailed 7-6 when the conversion kick failed.
The Bulldogs were still down (13-6) after three quarters but put together a 63 yard scoring drive to get within a point on Adrian Goodwin's 18 yard scoring run. A 2-point conversion attempt failed however, leaving Trinity down 13-12 with less than 4 minutes remaining.
Trinity's defense forced a punt and, with 5 seconds remaining in the game, Dominic Payne completed a pass to Campbell for the winning touchdown.
SW Randolph 20, Albemarle 7
Southwestern Randolph registered 266 rushing yards with Easton Clapp totaling 194 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. Clapp also passed for 72 yards – 32 yards to Eli Gravely, 31 yards to Adam Cole and 21 yards to Colton Law. Cole also had a rushing touchdown.
Nathan Ellis had an interception for the Cougars.
Ledford 42, Providence Grove 21
Zane Cheek scored all 3 touchdowns for the Patriots with 26 carries for 147 yards and 2 scores along with 4 catches for 28 yards and a third score. Brady Collins completed 11 passes for 127 yards and the touchdown pass.
Lemuel Coletrane had 51 receiving yards and Zander Cheek added 34 yards rushing.
Providence Grove had 3 turnovers including an interception which Ledford returned for a touchdown.
North Stanly 40, Randleman 34
Both teams scored in every quarter and produced close to 900 yards of combined offense but North Stanly scored twice in the fourth quarter to take a 40-28 lead with 3:32 remaining. Randleman scored with 48 seconds left on the clock but the Comets covered the ensuing on-side kick and were able to run out the clock.
Christian Long rushed for 4 touchdowns and recorded over 200 passing yards. Amarion Moton carried for 114 yards and a Tiger score and Edison Hernandez rushed for 63 yards. Tyshaun Goldston had 7 catches for 114 yards and Chesney Welch 2 catches for 47 yards.
Cam Norton blocked a Comets punt. Bryson Atkins blocked a conversion kick and recorded an interception.

Jonathan Kelly carried 15 times for 124 yards and a touchdown while Riley Strickland completed 12 passes for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Kelly caught 2 passes for 33 yards while the touchdown passes went to Sa'Cory Maryland and Gavin Strickland.
Trey Swaney and Ethan Roberts led in tackles with Ashtin Bennett recording 2 sacks. Roberts and Gavin Strickland each had an interception for the Warriors.

The Wildcats rushed for 207 yards with 2 touchdowns by Devonte Brooks and another by Jake Fesmire. Ervodd Cassady led with 118 yards on 20 carries.
Stratton Barwick completed 4 passes for 58 yards with a 31-yard scoring pass to DJ Thomas.

Eli Gravely had 10 receptions for the Cougars and Grant Little led with 50 rushing yards.

Adrian Goodwin had 8 carries for a score and recorded a 2-point conversion rushing and one receiving.
Other touchdown catches were made by Chance Grogan, Brayden Jackson and Gage Griffiths.
Jackson and Javeon Holmes led the defense with 7 tackles each. Grogan and Nathan Mathai each recovered fumbles.

Zane Cheek rushed for 210 yards with 3 touchdowns on 16 carries for the Patriots. Zander Cheek had 10 carries for 75 yards and a score. Chase Whitaker and Karson Bowman also made it into the end zone for PG touchdowns.
Andrew Canter completed 4 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown to Zander Cheek and Tucker Batten was 7-for-7 on pat kicks.
Bowman, Whitaker and Logan Fox had double-digits in total tackles with Whitaker recording 2 sacks and a fumble recovery. Lemuel Coltrane had an interception for Providence Grove.

Randleman held Smith to 91 yards of offense while totaling 346 yards themselves with rushing touchdowns by Amarion Moton and Christian Long. Moton led on the ground with 114 yards on 21 carries.

The Patriots rushed for 207 yards with 2 touchdowns and passed for 51 yards with 2 touchdowns.
Jaden Bacon led the rushing attack with 75 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Zane Cheek added a touchdown on 1 carry for 70 yards.
Andrew Canter and Chase Whitaker each completed touchdown passes with receiving scores by Joe Coltrane and J C Cruz.
