November 29, 2023 - NCHSAA
According to published reports the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Board of Directors has voted to increase the number of classification divisions from 4 to 8 beginning in the fall of 2025. This follows a vote earlier this year by the member schools which changed the association bylaws so that no classification can have more than 64 teams.
With 440 schools expected for the 2024-25 school year, eight classifications beginning in the next alignment period – school year 2025-26 – will mean about 55 schools in each class determined by school enrollment.
